Designed by Woulfe is an interior design studio founded by Brian Woulfe in 2008. The studio works globally with notable recent projects in the UK, US and Asia Pacific regions.
We sat down and chatted with Brian Woulfe founder of Designed By Woulfe to discuss his exciting plans for the future.
Tell me about the origins of Designed By Woulfe?
It all happened completely by accident. It was both unplanned and unexpected. The journey could be a book or a movie one day…! I am a bit of a perfectionist, (well, more than a bit!) and have been since I was a child. I notice when the placement of a painting on the wall or a book on the table isn’t quite right. I spot imperfections in the plasterwork, cushions that are not plumped or colours that are slightly off etc.… and so, interior design seemed like the right fit! And that’s really how Designed by Woulfe came to be.
What does good interior design mean to you?
It means getting the balance between playfulness, functionality and stillness just right. I am a playful character by nature and in order for a space to be truly liveable it must have that juxtaposition of personality with luxury and well-thought out design. I take pride in my hands-on approach, working closely with clients through the process and instilling their personality into a project.
What are your three top tips for aspiring interior designers?
– Visualise! Don’t just design. Become your client
– Be organized.
– Be patient and the good things will happen.
What does a typical day look like for you?
I love the adventure that being a designer takes me on. No day and no project is the same. I like to be up and ready to go by 7am before the emails start coming in from suppliers and clients all over the world. I love the rush it gives me, but it’s necessary to factor in some down time too. I’ll take my Chow Chow for a walk before sitting down in my home office to start planning and organising. From sourcing a counter top from Italy for a project in the States to putting together a new client pitch, I’ll always have a cappuccino close by. I’ll visit showrooms to specify the latest designs and get inspiration.
Designed By Woulfe works globally on a variety of projects, what is instore for the next six months?
This year is all about continuing the growth of Designed by Woulfe. Listed buildings, holiday villas and more overseas projects are all on the cards for 2018. I will be focusing on expanding my portfolio in the US too.
And lastly, what are your favourite flowers?
Without a doubt it has to be Orchids. As long as you know what they like they are fairly low maintenance. Whether you’re wanting to add a pop of colour or looking for something a little unique and exotic you cannot go wrong with these beautiful plants.
